# Fingerprint

A photo, shrunk to 64 bits that stay the same when the photo is resized or recompressed. The photo is reduced to a tiny greyscale picture and turned into 64 ones and zeros that describe its shape of light and dark. As of October 23, 2026, Vessim has fingerprinted 387 listings and compared 74,691 photo pairs.

## Why it matters at Vessim

Two copies of the same photo give the same, or nearly the same, fingerprint, even after a store resizes it. It is how Vessim recognises one product across sellers whose titles disagree. Resellers reuse the supplier's photos, so the fingerprint follows the product from shop to shop.
